China

This learning block represents one week’s work. Aim to watch at least one video and choose at least one activity or project to complete.

There are several videos to choose from about China. Feel free to watch one, or all of them!

The Great Wall of China

Chinese (Lunar) New Year

The Giant Panda: A documentary

This is a full length documentary about giant pandas, which live only in China. It’s an older documentary and some of the info is out of date. For instance, giant pandas don’t die nearly as often in human care as they did when this was made, and giant pandas are no longer on the endangered species list. Even so, this is a wonderful documentary about giant pandas and the people who care for them.

Perhaps you want to have a family movie night where you watch this one together and discuss what you learn.

Save your project for your portfolio.

Chinese Food & Chopsticks!

First, start by watching the video above, talking about the diversity of Chinese foods and the culinary regions of China.

The food you get in Chinese restaurants is often NOT representative of the food most Chinese people are eating!

Then, watch the videos below to learn how to make a couple of simple Chinese dishes. If you are not old enough to use the stove without help, ask an adult or teen for help!

Next up: Learn to use chopsticks!!

This video says it takes less than two minutes to teach you… but it takes a LOT longer than that to get good at using them!

Keep practicing!
